Sergio Estrada
Hair Stylist + Wig Maker
Sergio Estrada, a New York City-based hairstylist with over a decade of experience in the beauty industry, has followed a natural drive for hairstyling that was inspired by his mother’s talent. Growing up, he watched her transform hair for school dances and quinceañeras, shaping updos that would later light the fire for his burgeoning passion.
He found his niche in editorial hairstyling while working in a salon that introduced him to runway and high-fashion techniques through Bumble and bumble educators. This experience, coupled with his love of working with his hands, ignited his passion for creating bold, intricate and dynamic styles for editorial photoshoots and personal artistic projects.
To him, a bleach job that might appear “bad” to others becomes an expression of raw individuality, an echo of character rather than flaw. Seeing beauty where others do not - finding art in hair that defies convention and embraces the unexpected - that is his North Star. He cherishes haircuts where the layers are bold and unapologetic, visibly carved and intentionally imperfect, each serving as a testament to personality and striking contrast. The crisp, clean twists and braids from the height of late 90s / early 00s R&B queens are a source of inspiration that steer his artistic eye. Certain choices, often overlooked, or considered “tacky”, embody a unique charm that Sergio sees as an invitation to celebrate the beauty in imperfection.
Sergio’s impressive client roster spans fashion, music, and entertainment, featuring talents like Lourdes Leon, Eartheater, Hari Nef, Sevdaliza, Julio Torres, Horsegirrl, Gracie Abrams, Omar Apollo, and Brooke Candy. Over the next five years, he aims to continue evolving creatively, bringing his unique vision to high-profile projects and collaborations.
Committed to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, Sergio actively advocates for GLITS, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the well-being of the transgender community, a cause close to his heart.
